3D water atlas is online

9 December 2016

The Centre has developed and released the 3D water atlas which is an open source 3D subsurface virtual earth that can be accessed via most commonly used web browsers. This freely available water atlas provides a 3D view of unified data on groundwater level and chemistry, hydrogeological layers and analysis tools. The water level and chemistry data has been sourced from the state government database as well as CSG company bore and well monitoring programs. In addition the 3D water atlas also includes the most recent geological model of the Surat Basin. The 3D water atlas contains basic search functions which can find a single bore or identify bores that are completed in a particular formation. There are also quality control features which can be used to filter out bores which do not match a specified criteria. The platform will support research and further understanding of groundwater and the impact of CSG extraction and water re-use, treatment and disposal on groundwater resources. in the coal seam gas fields of the Surat Basin. To find out more about the 3D water atlas see UQ news article or visit the 3D water atlas.
