UQ Gas & Energy Transition Research Centre launches

22 April 2024

The UQ Gas & Energy Transition Research Centre has launched, marking a new phase for the Centre for Natural Gas supported by The University of Queensland and our members.

The new name better articulates the Centre’s purpose and represents the evolving research priorities of the Centre across all aspects of the role of gas in the energy transition.

Under the leadership of Professor David Close, who took on the role of Director at the start of 2024, the Centre and its members will continue to deliver on its commitment to actively contribute to the broader energy transition discourse.

To align with the new name, the Centre's research activities will be restructured around four key themes:

  • Communities and Coexistence
  • Decarbonisation
  • Environment
  • Energy Security

The Centre aims to help Australia achieve an orderly and effective transition to a sustainable energy future, and it will continue to be a reliable source of independent, trusted, and rigorous research that addresses challenges faced by industry, government, and communities.
