Sustainable gas and energy profiled at Queensland Exploration Council Technical Forum 2020
The UQ Centre for Natural Gas took a lead role at the recent Queensland Exploration Council Technical Forum held in Brisbane on 19 February 2020. This popular and well regarded forum provides a platform for the sharing of the latest information and technology in the exploration field, featuring a wide selection of highly regarded exploration industry experts.
The Centre’s Professor Suzanne Hurter chaired an informative session on unlocking new hydrocarbon resources in Queensland. It featured a line-up of natural gas experts from UQ who covered a range of aspects, including:
- Keynote on sustainable gas and energy (Professor Andrew Garnett, Director UQ Centre for Natural Gas)
- Hydraulic fracturing to improve coal drainage without impacting mineability (Professor Ray Johnson, UQ School of Chemical Engineering and UQ Centre for Natural Gas)
- Optimisation of gas wells using advanced data analytics (Dr Mahshid Firouzi, Advance Queensland Fellow, UQ School of Chemical Engineering)
- Sustainable enhancement of coal seam gas production in Queensland (Dr Christopher Leonardi, Advance Queensland Fellow, School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering)
The session concluded with a question and answer session.
