The Centre for Coal Seam Gas has scholarships available for Master in Petroleum Engineering degree.

The president and two fellow members of the not for profit CMG Reservoir Simulation Foundation visited the Centre. In conjunction with the visit an Onshore Gas Student Research Expo was held.

The China University of Petroleum-Beijing and The University of Queensland have established a joint CBM/CSG international research academy (The China-Australia Academy of Unconventional Petroleum Research). This research academy will investigate industrial challenges present in both China and Australia to develop potential research solutions.

The Centre has published a review paper on unconventional gas in Queensland, which explores aspects of gas production ranging from technical challenges to water management, social considerations and the regulatory environment.

The Centre has released an online toolkit to monitor changes in communities undergoing rapid changes, identifying cause and effect and improving a community’s future prospects.

The centre's Socio-economic indicators maintenance & annual reporting project has released a new website, which provides information on key indicators developed to measure change in communities undergoing rapid change such as CSG development.

Media and strategic communication have played a primary role in anchoring CSG in the public agenda. A CCSG project conducted at the School of Journalism & Communication undertook a study to investigate the impacts of stakeholder-driven strategic communication on public discourse and media coverage of CSG.

New funding will enable development of improved methods for cost-effective bentonite plugging and abandonment technology to plug old coal exploration bores and water wells with deteriorated or non-existing casing.
